Pumpkin Patches Worth the Drive from Chicago

Score your gourd at one of these pumpkin patches in the city or suburbs.

Find a pumpkin patch in the city or head to a true farm experience in the Chicagoland suburbs to fill your home with fall this season.

Pumpkins are ripe for the picking in late September and into October, and many pumpkin patches also offer family fun like corn mazes, farm activities for kids and fresh fall treats and goodies. Here are some of our favorite pumpkin patches to check out with your family.

All Seasons Orchard

Pumpkins will be ready to pick in late September. There will be thousands of pumpkins to choose from ­— orange, white, green, bumpy, spotted, striped, big and small – they’ve got it all! They also have other fall decor including fall foliage, mums, decorative pumpkins and gourds, and more. Check out the on-site bakery for fresh apple cider doughnuts along with other amazing fall treats. 

Bronkberry Farms

Don’t leave until you’ve tried a caramel apple-made sweeter with a secret family recipe! The market is open daily, and check the farm’s website for other weekend events craft fairs, dog days and more. The Fall Fest takes place on Oct. 7-8, 2023.  

Cody’s Farm

Fun on the farm doesn’t mean breaking the bank at Cody’s Farm. In addition to a free hayride to pick the perfect pumpkin, there is no admission fee or parking fee. Head to the market for apple cider and donuts before you leave.

Dave’s Pumpkins

On weekends, hop on the hayride, try out the mini corn maze, go pumpkin bowling (yes, with real pumpkins) or have some old-fashioned fun on the pedal tractors. Their u-pick pumpkins are available for a low price and they have cider donuts on weekends in the fall.

Didier Farms

Pick from eight different pumpkin varieties at this farm. Watch the pig races, ride the kiddie rides and make sure to stop at Grandma D’s bakeshop for yummy apple cider and pumpkin donuts. Happy Times Pumpkin Fest takes place on Sept. 16-Oct. 29, 2023. 

Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch

Take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch where the perfect pumpkin awaits. Afterwards, chug around the lake on the Pumpkin Express or catch the silly pumpkin-eating dinosaur.

Johansen Farms

There is no charge to visit — and even just take pictures — at the pumpkin patch, where more than 25,000 pumpkins await visitors this year. Admission to the zoo and attractions includes llamas, miniature ponies and baby chicks, plus hayrides, train rides and pony rides.

Jonamac Orchard

Hop on the hayride and take a ride to the pumpkin patch. Choose your own pumpkin and use the wagons or wheel barrows to help haul your pumpkins back to the hut to pay for them. Pumpkins will be available mid-September.

Konow’s Corn Maze

Pick your pumpkin, plus enjoy two corn mazes, a cow train, a tike track, two jumping pillows, a treehouse and more. 

Richardson Adventure Farm

Take a trip through the corn maze and pick up your pumpkin while you’re there. Farm admission includes kids’ ziplines, jumping pillows and an animatronic chicken show, among other activities. 

Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm

  • Cost: $24.95/weekends and Columbus Day, $19.95/weekdays, free/kids ages 2 and under; Pumpkins are sold by the pound

This farm located just outside Joliet offers about 40 acres of fall fun. Take a hayride to the 10-acre pumpkin field, or if you prefer, walk over to the smaller pumpkin field. 

Stade’s Farm and Market

Families flock here during the weekends for Shades of Autumn Festival and classic farm fun. Start off by taking a tractor driven hayride to their 33-acre pumpkin patch and then hit up the two-acre corn maze for all ages. Activities abound, including a mini-Ferris wheel, petting zoo, veggie cars, slide mountain, zip lines and more. 

Tom & Zach’s Pumpkin Patch

This no-muss, no-frills farm is perfect for families just looking for a pumpkin at their one and a half-acre farm. Wagons are available to help you haul your gourd from the field that is parking lot adjacent. Props are also set up if you’re looking for a new family pic. Cash only.
