Simplifying your back to school style

When it comes to school day fashion and beauty, it's either simple or simply not happening. Here are a few of my favorite ways to keep looking great as effortless as possible.

Basics gone wild

Give your denim shirt some extra credit this year. Remember, simple doesn't have to mean boring. This fall it's all about bold prints both big and small, and creating lovely, unexpected playdates between them. Here are two complete looks from Target that start with a simple denim shirt and end with a bang.

Facing the Day

If you've given up on makeup due to the morning rush, there's a new kit in town that might just change all that. I recently discovered and fell in love with MAKE UP FOR EVER, a fabulous makeup line by beauty superstore, Sephora. This starter kit contains all you need to create a flawless complexion-in three steps. Includes a primer to prep your skin, a stunning foundation, and the most amazing finishing power I've ever tried. At the very least, you'll look like you have perfect "just woke up" skin.

Here is one more of my favorites from the MAKE UP FOR EVER line. It makes applying eye shadow a snap, comes in 12 beautiful colors and stays on all dang day.

Cake style

The new school year means loads of parental functions from curriculum night and meet-your-class mixers to annual school benefits. And it's always a question of what to wear.

Enter CakeStyle.com. This at-home personal shopper site makes putting outfits together and looking sharp a snap. Your personal stylist creates several "looks" based on your needs, ships them to you in a pretty box and you get to keep what you like. There's also a how-to video with each look, and shipping both ways is free. Now looking chic truly is as easy as cake.

The average price for a dress is $250-$400, jeans $150-$200 and blouses $75-$300. cakestyle.com

Bed head

There is many a school morning when you just can't manage to shower and wash your hair. Let me introduce you to your mane's new BFF, Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. Simply spray it on your roots in sections, work it in a bit with your fingers, and you're ready to style. I love the whole NYM line and it's sold exclusively at CVS, so it's easy on the debit card.

Watch your tone

Another one of my favorite drugstore beauty secrets is Salma Hayak's Nuance line. I particularly love the Detoxifying Cleansing and Toning Towelettes-they quickly clean and tone your skin and ready it for the day ahead. They're also great to keep in the car for a midday freshen-up, and it's perfect for travel.
