Chicago Parent Staff

About 1 million Simplicity cribs were recently recalled after at least three deaths, seven infant entrapments and 55 incidents. The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation. This is an urgent safety hazard. If you have a recalled crib, or one not subject to the recall that has drop-side problems, contact Simplicity at (800) 858-8323 and ask for a refund, and report the problem with any cribs to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Recent recalls include:

Sesame Beginnings Travel Play Yards by Kolcraft are recalled after a 10-month-old boy strangled on the changing table’s restraint strap. All of the play yards have raised changing tables with a restraint strap that forms a loop beneath the changing table, posing a strangulation hazard to a child in the play yard.

Mini Zooper doll strollers sold at Pottery Barn Kids are recalled because a child’s finger can become caught in the rectangular metal clip or the black plastic side hinge.

Single Post swing sets by BCI Burke Company are recalled because the connection on the top beam of the swing set can break, causing the swing beam to collapse. A user or bystander also can be injured by the falling top rail.

Novara Afterburner trailer bicycles by REI are recalled because the children’s trailer bicycle can detach from the adult bicycle, posing a fall hazard to children.

Plush boys rattles by Target can choke young children if the rattles break open, releasing the small beads inside.
