Calling all teens!
Want to have a say in how technology is used at your library or school? Simply log onto a survey posted at www.ala.org/yalsa, and answer 15 questions about how you use computers, gadgets and more at home or at school. The survey closes March 31.
Teens can also have a hand in choosing the theme for next year’s Teen Tech Week, a campaign sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association. The three potential themes are Be InterACTIVE @ your library, Go Digital @ your library, and Get Your Game On @ your library.
In June, YALSA will release findings from the survey responses.
From March 2-8, YALSA sponsored Teen Tech Week. The association, in partnership with the Federal Trade Commission and the National Education Association, also emphasized using technology in smart, safe ways and recognized librarians and educators as a vital resource in helping teens and their parents to navigate technology.
Teens’ responses to the survey will help YALSA and its partners tailor resources, activities, programs and events so that they are most relevant and helpful to teens.
“We are encouraging parents and teens to come to their schools and libraries to find out more about technology and what’s available to them—and how to use these resources responsibly,” said Paula Brehm-Heeger, president of YALSA. “We are dedicated to helping teens become responsible digital citizens who will know how to handle all of the situations they encounter online.”
