    Re: snoring

My nickname used to be "Flight of the Concord".  Just because someone snores does not mean they have sleep apnea, but it is a much higher probability and really worth checking into.  You could encourage your husband to go to his doc and ask about having a sleep study done.  Sleep apnea is a condition where the person's airway is naturally obstructed by excess skin tissue.  As the apnea sufferer actually stops breathing for more than 11 seconds, their body wakes up from a deep sleep so that the airway opens up and allows good old oxygen back in.  This is an on going cycle. Long term effects of sleep apnea are brutal if left untreated, like increased blood pressure, stroke and narcalepsy.  The most common cause of death for untreated sleep apnea is due to car accidents where people have fallen asleep at the wheel!

The good news is that if he is diagnosed and gets to use a cpap machine, it will improve his sleep quality, overall health and you will get better sleep too.  The "white noise" created by the cpap can be very soothing and a worthy trade off.

In the mean time, a gentle nudge every now works for a little while.
