Savings accounts are offered from nearly every bank with an average national rate of around 2%. Make sure you're aware of any minimum balances or monthly fees on your account. These fees can add up and eat into the interest you earn monthly from the account. Opening a bank account is usually a good thing, but you shouldn't be opening up too many. Some banks may see you opening up too many and may think you are trying to commit fraud. Try to keep yourself limited to less than 2-3 savings accounts. It is better also because you won't have to worry about the minimum balances or monthly fees, better for your organization!
If you can have an account in your own name, that is probably best as it will help you to learn to manage your money and will also start building a credit record, which is important. If you are too young to do that, then it is definitely better to have a joint account rather than not having a bank account at all.
