    I might suggest, as a parent of a child with reading difficulties, though on the comprehension end, checking out Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes.  They work to develop the sensory-cognitive skills necessary to  both decode the word and comprehend the word.  Through both aspects, reading fluency is increased.  You can check out their website by clicking on the hyper link above or by cutting and pasting the link below into your browser.  They have a learning center in Oak Park and one in Deerfield.

    My son attended the center intensively for four weeks and I watched his comprehension level jump tremendously.  I also have the extreme pleasure of working there and see many children, of many different ages, with many different reading difficulties go through the program to come out  with a much better handle on reading, spelling, reading fluency, and comprehension.
