Just Say No

It's an important message that's getting a green twist these days as kids (from the littlest to the largest) are learning to nix paper and plastic in a collective effort to help the earth stay healthier.

Truthfully, these days, it's pretty easy to keep little feet set squarely on the straight and narrow path of knowledge thanks to all of the planet-loving people out there who are peddling environmentally-conscious products ranging from organic bedding to dolled up duds made from soy.

My favorite way to lend a hand in the green movement is the reusable tote, which helps reduce mountains of plastic bag clutter that clogs up landfills with tons of trash that takes up to 1,000 years to break down - not to mention the billions and billions of dollars that are used up annually to create their paper counterparts.

Penton Kids Press is mixing the best of both worlds with their latest book release for kids at national bookstores everywhere, called, "My Bag and Me." The earth-friendly focus of the story is all about saying no to the use of dreaded plastic and paper bags while on a trip to the grocery store, and even comes with a reusable Tyvek tote printed with "I Love Earth" that'll really get kids into the idea of reduce, reuse, recycle.

The story itself is a little lame, but the message is solid - much like my commitment to earth saving.
