Bringing home a box full of hospital paperwork that literally outweighs your fresh-baked bundle of newborn goodness can definitely put a damper on an otherwise stellar occasion.
And frankly, the only thing putting a damper on the big day should be the showroom new plumbing system starting to warm-up in said newborn.
I'm so glad that Organized From The Start, Inc., agrees.
Keeping discharge papers, prescriptions, follow-up instructions, social security forms, the all-important birth certificate, insurance doo-hickeys, post-natal care pamphlets and illustrated how-to's from La Leche League organized however, can make for another wet blanket kind of moment, especially since most parents would much rather spend all their time poring over their teeny tot instead of poring over a mountain of medical records.
To keep all the attention where it belongs - on all those brand new fingers and toes - Organized From The Start, Inc., came up with a functional, actually practical Baby Briefcase (shown at top left, $29.95).
Trust me, it's something you'll love.
Well, that and the few nanoseconds of sleep you manage to squeeze in between all the pooping, crying, feeding, burping and puking that goes on that first month.
Keeping all that paperwork organized sounds like a chore, but take it from a mama who knows first-hand, it can really come in handy in the long-run.
Spending just a few minutes to stick those papers in some folders will not only keep everything in one place - where documents can't get lost, colored on or buried in a miscellaneous mail pile by accident - but your child's briefs will also be literally at your fingertips for special-needs sessions, unexpected ER visits or even for something like a Saturday trip to the consulate's office to sign up for a passport.
Each frosted plastic carrying case has a nifty snap closure with a little framed photo pocket to show off baby's first foray before the flashbulbs, and comes with 15 plastic letter-sized file folders in Springy mint green, peach and periwinke - many of which are pre-printed and categorized for you. There's also a Thank You Note Tracker and two wallet-sized baby information cards.
Now if your new baby just came with an instruction/operating manual, you could put that in there, too.
Cosmomama says there's more in the details:
This is hands-down one of my favorite organizational products, particularly because I'm a dork who lives for neatness, and have a long, long, long paper trail to tackle what with Will's 5-gal strong therapy team.
However, there are a few things that could definitely make this filing system truly fantastic. The first would be file folders that you can label without having to use a Sharpie. I'm allergic to them and any other kind of permanent marker (as in super-severe, gonna-die allergicness), so that has presented a problem since regular pens won't write on the slippery surface.
The second would be adapting the carrying case to have more of an expandable accordian style, simply because I can barely stuff all my files inside. It's really kind of ridiculous. I have to try and weed out the excess, or I guess I'll just have to spring for another.
