I love Mother's Day.
It's a such a deliciously happy day where the whole family comes together to celebrate, commemorate and acknowledge the enormous effort us hard-working mamas put forth into making sure our sweet little cherubs don't grow up to look and act (and smell) like something straight out of Where The Wild Things Are.
That being said, I feel like dads get a little short-changed when their own special day comes around a month later.
Yes, there's often hand-made scribble cards from the kiddies, scary-big 100 lb. kiln-fired tie-tacks from said offspring's school art class, and the odd nose hair trimmer or two, but in general, there seems to be a whole less hullabaloo when it comes to celebrating the other half that helped create that curly-haired cutie drooling on your shoulder.
Why not give dad something he can actually use this year that doesn't involve personal grooming habits or campy neckwear, that also promotes pitching in with the wee ones - daddy style?
Ah yes, such a gift is possible, especially if it's a cool, casual, yet totally mod messenger/diaper bag hybrid from Cosmotot fave, Diaper Dude (Orange Lion Bag - perfect for my English-American hubby, and the crowning touch for an Anglophile like me - shown at top left, $65).
Styled with discerning on-the-go dads (moms can choose and use them too, since many of the styles are unisex) in mind, each Diaper Dude offers a ton of handy, super accessible, easy-to-find-with-one-hand features like a removable, on-strap cell phone pouch; an ergonomic across-the-chest, adjustable wearing design (and padded back) to save shoulders from strain and stress; durable (wipeable) polyester construction that's rugged and sturdy; three exterior toggle zip pockets perfect for a wallet, snacks, and wipes; an elasticized, easy-to-reach side bottle pocket; a roomy, secret inner diaper pouch, included padded changing pad, and more.
Better yet, there's no pink flowers, big curliqued hearts, corny paisley swirls or cheesy licensed characters to scare manly-men types away from sharing the diaper-bag load, since each Diaper Dude boasts edgy, trendy, and totally artsy graphics like Chinese dragons, skulls with crossbones, the ever-popular camo, and even retro-rock guitars.
For dads (or moms) who roll with the suit-wearing set, Diaper Dude offers various styles in plain colors with simple contrast-piping, pinstripe, herringbone, plaid, and faux suede patterns.
And just because we're championing for dads this June, there's no reason why us moms shouldn't get in on the ergonomic action either (after all, we give our wee - or in my case, not so wee - beasties the old heave, haul and hug routine every five seconds) with the company's newly launched line of aptly named Diaper Divas (Silver bag shown at bottom right, $107).
Diaper Divas offer trendsetters turned tot-toting mamas the same organizational features as the original Diaper Dudes, but come in an array of extra fabulous prints and patterns like super-shiny faux patent leather, brown and pink color combos (including a peace sign, skull and crossbones or Chinese dragon), and of course, every divas must-have material - silver and gold.
