As the due date for the new addition to our family gets closer and closer, our house seems to fill up more and more with baby gear (I swear this kid has more stuff than I do already). One thing that’s impossible to miss in our living room is our Graco Sweetpeace Newborn Soothing Center which we were lucky enough to receive as a shower present. From what my husband and I have seen in various baby stores, this is definitely the ultimate baby swing.
The first thing we noticed that’s different about the Sweetpeace when compared to other swings is the swinging motion—it swings outward instead of back and forth, similar to how you would swing your baby in your arms. With six different swinging speeds, you’re bound to find one that comforts your little one, although I have to admit the top speed looks a little fast. The Sweetpeace also plays numerous sounds and songs, from chirping birds to a heartbeat to simple piano arrangements of classical tunes. If you don’t like any of the provided sounds, there’s even a cord to connect your own MP3 player. I tried this feature out with my iPod and appreciated that the cord is hidden in a little drawer in the base of the swing and I was able to close it with the iPod attached, keeping baby safe from the extra cord and my iPod safe from any clumsy feet. And even though the Sweetpeace is rather large (my husband warned me not to try to lift it by myself), it looks very cozy with its soft brown and beige padding, adjustable canopy and adorable headrest that has Teddy bear ears attached. Don’t be fooled by the large box, though—it does require some assembly. True to its promise, though, no tools were required and compared to the multiple other baby items my husband has had to put together, he said it wasn’t all that difficult.
The Graco Sweetpeace Newborn Soothing Center retails for $169.99. For more information visit www.graco.com.
