Building a fort/castle/house out of blankets/pillows/boxes is practically a requirement for childhood. They may not look sophisticated, but those homemade structures sure are fun to play in. With the DreamBuilders Clubhouse from Planet FOAM, your kids can still make their own buildings, but perhaps make them a little more stylish than the blanket/pillow/box varieties.
Each clubhouse kit contains a variety of foam tubes, plastic connectors and fabric pieces to create a structure of your child’s choosing. Our testing mom said that her 4-year-old first wanted to build the clubhouse pictured on the package, but after that was complete he used the tubes and connectors to make scooters, swords, different clubhouses and boats. While the product was a big hit at first, our mom said her son got frustrated when the plastic connectors didn’t hold the foam tubes and his creation fell apart. She said that this happened most often when the structure was big or when trying to make the foam pieces curve.
While this product obviously has its limitations, perhaps combining the building pieces with things around the house could lead to an even greater clubhouse than either set of materials alone could create. Just warn your kids that there’s only so much you can do with the foam pieces and connectors.
The DreamBuilders Clubhouse retails for $49.99. For more information, visit www.planetfoam.com.
