Considering the current winter storm we’re all muddling through, we need a positive forecast from every groundhog we can get tomorrow. So whether you’re snowed in today and plan to stay inside or you’re brave enough to face the heaps of white stuff to avoid cabin fever this weekend, here are some Groundhog Day-related activities for you and your kids.
For the homebound, check out www.groundhog.org for the official Web site of the Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog Club. Here you can find kids’ activities and a recipe for groundhog cookies (“Teachers’ Corner”), answers to commonly asked Groundhog Day questions and facts about Phil himself (“About Groundhog Day”) and a live webcast of Phil’s prediction starting at 6 a.m. Chicago time (link on the homepage). If you’re not an early riser on the weekends, you can always click on “Phil’s Forecast” later in the day to see what the furry guy had to say. If your kids have a snow day from school today, this Groundhog Day word search should provide some indoor fun as well.
If you’re looking to spend some time away from home, check out our calendar for a list of Feb. 2 events, including Groundhog Day activities at Brookfield Zoo and Woodstock Square.
