The dog days of winter

Amazingly enough, we’re already at the end of 2007. That means new resolutions, new semesters and, of course, new calendars. If you have pets in your family (or are just an animal lover in general), this calendar is sure to be a hit in your house. The Dog Days calendar, from Evanston-based Sutton Studios, features gorgeous and adorable black-and-white photos of people with their dogs by photographer David Sutton. As the proud pet parent of two dogs, I just melted over these photos (just look at the cover picture above if you're not convinced). And you can feel good about where your money is going, too—100 percent of the proceeds go to support no-kill animal shelters. Sutton Studios donates 10,000 calendars to local shelters and the shelters in turn sell the calendars to raise money (the suggested donation is $10). Go to Sutton Studio's Web site for a list of shelters currently selling the calendars. You can also purchase a calendar at Sutton Studios, 3417 Church St., Evanston, and they will donate the money to their local shelter. And really, how can you go wrong with pictures of cute dogs?
